 Online Safety Tips for Kids

1. Treat people that you don't know on the Internet as strangers.

2. Do not give out any personal information.

3. Be aware when choosing your chat username or email address.

4. Never agree to meet someone whom you've met online.

5. Do not fill out forms online without consulting your parents.

6. Always tell your parents / teachers if you come across stuff on the Internet that makes you fell            uncomfortable.

7. When chatting in chat rooms, remember that not everyone is who they say they are.

8. Do not open E-mails from someone you don't know.

9. Never send a picture of yourself to someone you chat with on the computer.

10. Remember that people online may not be who they say they are.

Online Safety Tips for Parents

1. Create a list of Internet house rules, you should include the kinds of sites that are off limits, Internet hours, and guidelines for communicating with others online, including in chat rooms.

2. Know which chat rooms your kids visit, and whom they talk to.

3. Talk to you kids about their online friends and activities.

4. Keep Internet connected computers in an open area and out of  your kids bedrooms.

5. Teach your kids never to give out personal information.

6. Encourage your kids to tell you if something or someone online makes them feel uncomfortable.

7. Teach your kids not to download programs, music or files without your permission.

8. Be aware of the Web sites that your kids visit.

9. Periodically check the Web sites your kids  are visiting and look at files they are storing.

10. Monitor the amount of time your child spends on the Internet, and at what times of day. Excessive time online, especially at night, may indicate a problem.
